My Darling Bro:

This lovely sabbath A. M., I will say a few words to you, although you know I do not often write on Sunday, except about things not inconsistent with what I think are the claims of this sanctified portion of our time. I think this is one of those days, those peculiarly lovely mornings which exhilarates ones [sic] spirits & as Longfellow says, makes men greet each other more cordially on the street; & which some other poet has spoken, as "the bridol (???) of the earth & sky" - Don't you remember Julia used to say it & read it often - "sweet day, so cool, so calm, so bright." I have thought of her often this morning & wondered how she is employed in her far away home. I believe the doctrine taught in the bible will be the law in Heaven & we all will obey its every injunction implicitly - Don't you imagine there's good society up there. Every thing excluded that can work discord! Since she died, that lingering death of suffering & since our dear Mamie was snatched away so suddenly, I can not feel like singing; but this morning I felt like I must sing "Rock of Ages." When I sung a verse, I had to keep on & I went in the parlor to be alone & I kept singing.
