I went & stood before your picture & felt glad for the hope I had that you were sheltered in this "Rock." I do feel thankful that when no earthly friend is near us, we can converse with Jesus Christ in prayer & faith & get all the help we need. Although to the Greeks it is foolishness, this saving of the world by believing in Christ, yet to those who try it, it is the power of God unto salvation. My faith has always been too wavering & so I have had to travel a long journey in the wilderness, but I never before had such rest in my feelings as lately & it came like a sunbeam when I was feeling very despondent about my spiritual condition - "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus." These are the words that comforted me - Christ himself says our work is to believe on him. This I do & am uncondemned - What a rest! I always felt like I had something great to do & did not know how to do it. I now see that our salvation is already paid for in Christ's death & we are free & only required to keep God's commandments & work in his vineyard as seemeth best 'till he call us up higher. Bettie has just returned from church & tells me a boy that used to work in Mr. Michaux's printing office, but who has been off
