Note: In this letter from Lucy W. Ball to, her brother, Richard Harvey Wright, she asks about Richard and Mamie Exum Wright's baby daughter, Mamie Wright's health. She had been ill for some time. Lucy urges Richard to bring the baby to her in Greensboro, North Carolina so Lucy can heal the ailing child for a while. Lucy reminds her brother that she and her husband, Mr. Ball, plan to rent a house in Asheville, North Carolina, because Mr. Ball is unwell with dyspepsia. Lucy suggests that richard bring his baby and wife to Asheville if the baby's health does not improve in Greensboro.

all trouble him right much. I am keeping up right well, for which I feel very thankful. Richard, don't set your heart too much on little baby & tell Nannie not to - God says: "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." Let us make God first in our hearts, then love baby because he has given her to us to love & [sic] ask him to bless her & make her well. If in his wisdom he deny our request, lets (Correction: let's) say, 'tho' bitter, dark & blighting to our feelings, "thy will, not mine, be done." Trust in God, for vain is the arm (???) of mortal man. Write me at once for I am all axiety (Correction: anxiety) & will watch the office eagerly. - God help you bear your trials & may you "lean hard" on him.
