of Grissum a severe beatting (Correction: beating). Blackwell took the negroes part and seemed to uphold her in such conduct, and the people became very indignant and would have lynched old Eade (???) if Blackwell had not sent her off. I understand she is in S. C. Blackwell became alarmed as to his safety I suppose and went to Raleigh. It was thought at first Blackwell would not be allowed to come back but I learned Carr wrote him to come back provided he would promise to do better. Christian is very anxious to see you What must I say to him. Let me hear from you.
