Title: Letter from Mattie Logan Southgate Jones to Thomas Decatur Jones, August 10, 1889
Author: Mattie Logan Southgate Jones
Date: 18890810
Note: Mattie Southgate Jones writes her husband Thomas Decatur Jones conveying her happiness that he arrived at his destination safely. She reports that their son Decatur slept fitfully and continues to talk "insesently" about his absent father. She details her domestic chores and forwards news from A.S. DeVlarming, her husband's bookkeeper, about the Jones tobacco enterprise. She notes that the local newspaper, the Sun, published a lengthy personal about Thomas. She closes with a request that Thomas send news through his correspondence.

I think the circumstances entitle me a letter every day from one or the other of you. I have been looking for a telegram from you all day telling how you finished the trip to Connelly's-I suppose you just overlooked it.

They are busy at the Factory today prizing cutters so DeV says. sent me a letter from [E??e] which will I enclose-I suppose you will get this morn[ing's] papers with your locals in them. The Sun only appeared at our door this morn and that gave you the first and longest personal-I have no news for you this am [a.m.]-but write to insist that you do not give me the "go by" in letter writing as you did in telegrams-for I do want to hear how you are getting along when you do not feel
