After the death of Mr. Morehead it became necessary to organize a new bank at once to carry the large am't of paper without pushing his friends & patrons. So we procured charter for the Morehead Banking Co. The new co. is separate & distinct from the old. They paid the old nothing for its goodwill or business and assumed none of its obligations whatsoever of any nature they take the old cos. business &c for absolutely nothing. Something I never heard of before. You will see from the circulars enclosed all about is [sic] organization &c & the manner of paying subscriptions. The purpose for the present to make the capital stock $100,000.00 & increase it circumstances demand our charter allowing us to go to half million. We now have subscribed by our old customers & friends of the house some thirty odd upwards of $60,000.00
