is dormant + must be aroused [+] active before he can operate on the nervous system + hence the medicine. Bro[ther] Laurens came in this a. m [sic] and sat an hour with me- It is so pleasant to have my friends call- The Dr thinks it will require a week or ten days for him to get me guaged (Correction: gauged) or rather find out what treatment I really need- He finds no organic trouble about me and thinks he can easily relieve me-but it will take time to get me straight again- God grant it may be so- I cannot write more now- Jimmie must fill in the balance- God bless you all-

The "Retreat for the Sick" is a beautiful place in the heart of the City and they will charge us only $1400 per week, where as [sic] it is about $3000 at the Hotel . The Dr thinks it the very place for Father- I went all through it this A.M. + was very much pleased. Father slept well last night but has not been very comfortable today-
With much love, Yr aff Son
