My dear family

I am able to write a short letter this a. m [sic] although I have just recovered from a slight attack. The Dr fortunately came in just as it was coming on + saw me through- He was sorry to see me suffer but glad he came in while I was in trouble. My friends are very kind- Mrs Moshsberg came to see me yesterday morning and sent complimentary tickets to a musical entertainment Jimmie went but I did not. He will write or tell you about it- Dr Lafferty called this morning and entertained me while I was sick. The arrangement is for me to go to the "Retreat" + Jimmie has made a visit there to secure me a comfortable room. This is not exactly a hospital but a building used for the treatment of Chronic diseases- A resident Physician who attends all the patients + it will be well for me to have some one all the time near to attend if I get sick- My Dr has prescribed + I have taken the first dose-Assa foetida [asafeotida] + Blue mass- I taste the miserable stuff + imagine I have dined on garlic only- He says my liver
