Your favor of 9" inst. recievd (Correction: received) yesterday and I was indeed glad to hear from you as White was here when your letter came to hand I drew at sight on Watkins &c (???), for $3000.00 as directed, which I paid over to White. He promised to ship tob. tomorrow the 12" and I will give him st. (???) dft. Monday for balance $2881.46. The arrangement seemed to be perfectly satisfactory with him. From way he talked I believe he would have been perfectly willing to have shipped the tobacco before we paid him any thing. I saw Lockhart yesterday evening as pr. advice and very easily convinced him of his mistake. They moved about half of tobacco May 19" delivered to Duke, and remainder 13" June delivered to Durham Tob. Co. It must be he wanted to shove off paying it as long as possible. He promised to give ck. for amt $42.66 this P. M.
