Delia describes her husband James Southgate's health problems, her daughter Lessie's adventures in Texas and her son Jimmie's travel to the seashore. She also inquires whether Mattie received gifts of clothing and money that she sent and promises to ship another box for Christmas.

My dearest Mattie.

Your letter came today 14th saying you have had not recent news from home-! All this surprises us exceedingly As all of us have written long-very long letters to you + to dearest Lessie. About ten days since Your father wrote + enclosed $10.00 to you +c +c +c as yet- we do not know of your having recd it Do let us know how it is.- You never mentioned the arrival of your Jacket-until recently- Last week we sent you 2 prs drawers. + at Xmas we expect to send your box + any other articles you may desire- We will send them with great pleasure. You + Less are in our minds all the time + our hearts also- We pray for you and always giving you both into the loving care + protection of our Alwise father-

Papa has just returned from Office 8- p m with your letter, declaring your intention to come home unless you get letters promptly every week- you also give the sad news of recent sorethroat (Correction: sore throat) + the good news of rapid restoration to health- My child- be prudent obey Miss Lizzie- You shall get some flowers for your dear teacher.
