Title: Letter from Delia H. Southgate to Mattie Logan Southgate, December 12, 1881
Author: Delia H. Southgate
Date: 18811212
Note: Delia H. Southgate shares news from home with her daughter Mattie Logan Southgate. Mattie's friend Willy Wilkinson battles a fever, her sister Annie has rebounded from illness, her brother Jimmie has traveled to Beaufort for fishing while Aunt Sarah plans a trip to Henderson. She inquires about the items Mattie will need for winter at the Wesleyan Female Institute and promises to send a box or care package for Christmas. Delia asks Mattie for information about her studies in vocal and instrumental music with Miss Lizzie Daniels and Professor E. Louis Ide.

Aunt Sarah is quite well + [will] go to Henderson after Xmas (Expanded: Christmas)- Jimmie has gone to Beaufort hunting + fishes for a time. Annie's health is greatly improved- I will be so very lonely after awhile, Annie speaks of going to school after New Year's day How is dear Minnie? Our love to her- + tell her if she could see Lida's miniature carriage drawn by a lovely donkey, she'd have a jubilee over those lovely children in that Cabriolet All of her people are well + happy- Yours are also- God bless my baby- + keep her as the apple of His eye, May her life resound to his power + glory-

Devotedly your mother
