Dear Richard:

I went over to Richmond last Tuesday night and returned last of week. I called on a great many manufacturers. But failed to procure an order from any of them. But I trust I paved the way to do business with some of them in the future. All who were buying on this market were reppresented (Correction: represented) by men who had been buying for them for some little time, and they did not feel disposed to change, as their men had given satisfaction, and others said they were stocked with tobacco and even not buying atall (Correction: at all), while some others claim they can do better on the Richmond market. All hands seemed to be afraid to buy only as they needed it. Several
