of Salem was profuse in his compliments + said he had heard some of the most noted performers in [Sternburg?] + others, but that piece in execution smoothness and expression was the best piece he ever heard and he considered that the perfection of playing- I heard all that myself. The congratulations came thick + fast from all quarters- Col Hick of Raleigh, Geo W Blount of Wilson + many other prominent men of the state who heard Cats sing were profuse in their commendations- I never heard her sing better- Her Blue dress gave her the stage look + she switched that trail quite stylishly- The Concert as a whole was very poor but some good pieces were of course in the list- I will remain with Cats till tomorrow when we will come home She has nothing to do tonight except to play Prof [Panliv?/Pauli] accompaniment unless they call her out on the loco foco again when that piece is reached-Miss Mitchell of Raleigh did not sing last night but will appear tonight The train arrived 2 hours behind & there was no time for practice-It was well Lessie Stopped [sic] over in Raleigh pr[sic] rehearsal-There was a full house last night & quite a select crowd. Cant write more now we must go to the fair this m[ornin]g Give love to all
