I would rather split rails or go in a ditch and throw mud for my daily bread than to suffer the mental anguish that is preying upon me daily and hourly. You have no idea how it makes me feel to look such a short way in the future and see want staring me in the face, unless I get up and bestir myself. I wish you to act on what I have written as though it were a stranger. I thought perhaps it would strike you as you are investing largely in real estate in Durham. I enclose J. B. Warrens [sic] account for rent before and after his failure. Smith should have had a credit on the statement I sent you. I bot (Correction: bought). a lot of tierces [unit of measure for tobacco] from him and he insisted they should go toward his rent. I will give you T. D. W. & Co. ck (Expanded: check). for the amt (Expanded: amount), which will make it all right. Will give you the amt (Expanded: amount) next time I write.

Yours very truly &c.

Thos. D. Wright
