She was so good, noble & unselfish. The world seems empty,--I long to be with my darling mother-can this be wrong? Father & seven children are gone before & will meet her over there. She will not be alone. But how dreary life is to me with[out] her. I can try to be all she would have had me be, had she lived. I can never hope to be the strong, useful, beautiful character she always sustained while here. I will at least endeavor to be worthy of her. O, Mr. Southgate my heart fails me-I fear the incentive for all that is best in life is wanting now. I know God knows
