I sent you the book by this evening [sic] mail, and trust it will reach you in time. I guess I will leave for Richmond tomorrow, but am afraid it will be spending money in vain. I have not been able to fill Pinkertons [sic] order yet but hope to find the tobacco in Richmond. I have been thinking since you were here, that it would possibly be better for me not to attempt to buy tobacco on speculation, at least for this year. Tobacco is very high and the out look seems very gloomy to me. And I have been thinking of a plan which I will here mention. But if it will in any way cramp or discommode you, of course, I would not wish that you do it. You spoke of furnishing me $3000.00 in a short time to buy tobacco. How would it suit you to invest that in paying
