Dear Richard:

Yours of 16" to hand and noted, and in reply will say that Dr. Watkins and Exum have neither [?] paid in their subscription. Dr. Watkins left here last Monday with his brother Charlie Watkins, told me he had to go on business, he did not return until yesterday morning (Thursday). Petty came down Wednesday I think. I have been on the Jury all the week and could not be at the mill except for a short time early in the morning. Consequently I could not give the matters of which you ask me about any attention. Will do so and report to you at once. I think machinery &c. is nearly ready for work. I have cleaned up the office all right and got every thing of the kind in good shape
