DeVlarming, Thomas Decatur Jones describes a difficult railroad journey to New York City and his lengthy search for a medical specialist who could treat his ailments. Thomas notes the help his sister Lessie Southgate provides him in locating a physician. The new doctor terms his condition "lung disease." I missed the Dr I came to see-he is here only Thursdays in each week during Aug.-Lessie went down yesterday morning + found about 25 patients ahead of her-she waited though + made an engagement for the Dr to come to my room at his convenience some time during the day. So I waited for him all day till 9 at night-getting more nervous all the time-so this am
