Notes:
Branson's Directory of the Business and Citizens of Durham City for 1887 indicates that S.J. Lewter, a clerk for A. M. Rigsbee, boarded at Hopkins House. The same source lists Mrs. Susan Hopkins as proprietor of the Hopkins House. (See pages 72 and 84). The David M. Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library, Duke University owns Atlas M. Rigsbee store ledgers for the last forty years of the nineteenth century. These volumes are also available as microfilm publications from Lexis-Nexis. See "Series A, Part 2" of the "Records of Southern Plantations from Emancipation to the Great Migration" collection.
