Title: Letter from Delia H. Southgate to Mattie Logan Southgate, March 15, 1882
Author: Delia H. Southgate
Date: 18820315
Note: Delia H. Southgate shares news with her daughter Mattie about the poor health of Sarah Raboteau ( Aunt Sarah), Annie Southgate as well as herself. She reports that their family's church will install a bell, notes that the revivals have closed, and gives Mattie news of Lula Freeland's school. Delia inquires about the care package that she sent Mattie and asks for details about the soiree held by the Wesleyan Female Institute.

My dearest Mattie,

I w'd (Expanded: would) write to you a long letter today, but I find myself bad off with Rheumatism + cold, but fearing you may be uneasy about home, I'll do the best I can + you'll pardon the balance. In the first place I fear Matt's box was too much for her health. Did you get it all right? It left here on Thursday day last + it ought to have reached you on Friday or Saturday- If detained. I fear the contents were spoiled or mutilated + did could [sic] not enjoy them: Or perhaps they were sound + good + you eat too much + made yourself sick + thereby prevented your writing as usual on Sunday
